What many people just getting involved in social networking are starting to figure out, slowly I may add, is that these websites are totally exposed portals on the internet. I read an article this week that criminals are starting to prey on Facebook and Twitter users. I am not sure how much attention this article received, but I think most would shrug it off thinking that they are not the culprits. I am on my social networks 5-6 times a day and I see the same incidents of total exposure.

Getting back to the original point of this discussion, is my most cherished items were items from the Kennedy’s. I grew up hearing all the stories form my grandmother who was a huge fan and my mother about America’s royal family. It was some of my favorite talks. What was interesting was a family heavily involved in politics but scarred with so much tragedy. It wasn’t until I grew up to really understand the impacts this family had on the country. I kept up with all the articles and the books and more of the tragedies. My favorite part of Washington was to visit the graves of the Kennedy brothers.

So the question remains. Did technology and the internet kill customer service? The treatment of customers has certainly declined. I can tell you many stories about mistreatment I have received as a customer for no reason. Is it because wages are not satisfying cost of living and in turn retailers are hiring underqualified employees?

Anyone who has been in any branch of the military service can tell one or two stories about an initial “hazing” incident that they encountered or were part of when they first entered joined. There are hundreds of instances that I myself were a part of or were a victim of when I first got stationed in California 20 years ago. It was part of the ritual of indoctrinating a newbie joining a unit.

I commented before on the “virtual handshake” involved with networking through the internet. You will hear me use that term time and time again because I fully believe that what you will see in the future will change the way we do business and meet new people. Most would say that nothing goes farther than a face to face conversation and the pressing of palms to truly make an acquaintance. I disagree.

I see it everyday, the person standing by the traffic light intersection holding the sign with the words “VETERAN” written across it. I dig in my pocket to come up with any cash I can to hand over. It is not that I don’t think that what is written is not true on the sign but I can’t think that. I cringe at the sight of more and more signs along roads begging to be helped. What is it about the homeless veteran and why can’t we do anything about it?
